ON069 - Oblivion and Further Disaster

by Uncle Woe

/
1.
It goes: I sink into the riverbed, separate from sweet mother sky. My hands are filled to overflowing. My hands are also full of holes. Everything I have come to collect slips through. Every door through which I have ever stepped has led me back to shore. I set sail with what’s left of my sister, t’ward some distant haunted light by which we fear we might never come to sea. Every sigh I have ever let fall out; every path down which I have made my escape has brought me back ashore. Come, dew-child, I have lain with writhing devils in cold and dying rooms. I have wept in empty aisles, and brought the ashes home. I have broken bread in shadow. I have sharpened shattered bone. I have tumbled out and down to pour forth from the mouth of Lethe. You’ve come due, child. What would you have me know? Come, dew-child, what would you have me know? I have tumbled out and down to pour forth from the mouth of Lethe.

Well 06:19
I am dangled on the winds of false breath. I can see through these painted on shadows. Do we still have to hold them up to keep ourselves on the ground? Do I not get to let them down? Do I not get to watch them all drown? Mirror, mirror down the well, who the hell am I to tell anyone? How came you so far? Do we still have to hold them up to keep ourselves on the ground? Do I not get to let them all down? Who the hell are you to lock the door? Who am I to tell anyone? How came you so far? I’m dangled on the winds of false depth. I can see through your painted on limbs. Do I not get to watch them all drown? Mirror, mirror down the well, who the hell am I to tell anyone? How came you so far? Who the hell are you to lock the door? Who the hell am I to knock?

I saw you fall awake. Come to tragedy, fashioned after a dead fall. The sun will bend for me, and allow safe passage. It’s your turn to plan the wake, and come to silence; in passing, as in when we’re late. I saw you fall awake. Come to tragedy, fashioned after the worst parts. The sun will bend for me, and offer up the day, and allow safe passage. We’ll bury the sky, to cover everything. We’re wearing the sky under everything. The sun will bend for me, and let us drift away. The sun will pale and fall away, and beg for us to stay, and offer us the day, and allow safe passage. It’s your turn.

Black milk from blackened breast to feed the clotted sun. Bleed and writhe. Bits of sick. Old cloth is wet and wrung. I’m loath to learn indifferent tides now rush to meet you there. How cold has been the sun to me; how heavy here the wear. I’d sing, “a pox upon you,” now, but holy I’m no fun. I breathe and forage where it’s damp. How burdened are my lungs. I try to mend the looking glass with knives which are not mine. How painful is it now to see through eyes I cannot find. How great has been my misery. Here buried with no hands, like flowers pressed between great seas, I would that we had died.
6.
Bring with you only what you need; what you can carry. Count a thousand moons and curse them as they pass. What comes around is vacant now. Within/without; we are alone. Pray that we are only knee deep, ’cause we are burdened and we are weary. The goddess of grief, upon a river of loss; the glass is half broken, the knife is fully chrome. Bring with you only what you need; what you can carry. Pray that we are only knee deep, ’cause we are burdened and we are weary. ∞ sect I have learned to live with phantom mourning. I have poured myself through the holes you’ve failed to bury. Preach to me from on high. scatter your own ashes far and wide. Cast your gaze upon me now with your bright and many eyes. shower me in broken shafts of warmth and love and light. Let me stand witness as you climb, and you climb, and you climb. In your hallowed hands, I am shaped into whatever you desire. I am a plaything; sublime. You could be the light, but that I have eyes. ’cause man, how I have watched you climb, and climb. I have watched you climb and climb. Climb. And if you take out your eyes, and I in turn close mine, we will never have to see ourselves. We will never know the light. When I have lived to weep as I am given to the sky, when I have hollowed out every stone you ever gave to me, reach to me from on high. I cannot wait to be inside. Cast your gaze upon me now, with your bright and many eyes. shower me in broken shafts of warmth and love and light. Let me stand witness as you climb, and you climb. and if you take out your eyes, and I in turn close mine, we will never have to see ourselves. We will never know the light.

about

Get your sludge doom stoner psychedelic post metal and rock sunglasses, shoes, socks and pants on (or take them all off if you prefer!), and allow yourself time to get comfortable and take this in one 40 minute sitting.

I don't really need to re-introduce Uncle Woe that much; the 'Well' EP is still really fresh on these pages after doing the rounds for nearly 4 months. There are plenty of nice words around the internet, 4 track videos and the EP on the Owlripper YouTube, so with no time to lose, waste or watch turn into memorial dust in front of our crying eyes, here is the album, featuring 2 previously heard tracks (different versions) and adding 5 other massive sounding parts to the overall equation.

An interesting read from Uncle Woe's Bandcamp about this release, more favourable than a long introduction from me:- "In the early stages of writing and arranging this batch of songs, this was going to be a side project. Once everything was fleshed out enough to hear as a whole album though, it was obviously the next Uncle Woe record.

Enter Marc Whitworth (the sole player of X's For Eyes) on drums; whose absolutely precise and articulate frantic mastery behind the kit immediately helped make this the most compelling and urgent Uncle Woe record to date.

The sludge vibe is a little more dialled in and concise on this one, with shorter songs that largely shy away from the more atmospheric, post-metal territory into which one might have come to expect an Uncle Woe release to wander. There was no need to take the time to set the mood with these songs; everything is just awful."
