Séraphitüs-Séraphîta Emotionally devastating… This album has garnered much attention and for good reason. You can feel just how much went into this body of work. By the end, it feels like there is still so much healing to be done… There are some deaths that are impossible to ever fully come back from. Life becomes “life without that person”. I am excited to present this epic album by Dauðaþráhyggja; an Icelandic artist simply known as D//O. The word translates as 'Death Obsession', which gives the album its name.

Combining dark ambient, death industrial, heavy electronics, tense synth melodies, meditative noise walls and biting chaos, with a few elements of surprise, sinister turns and beautiful twists as we move through, until we get to the highly emotional closing piece which is centred around minimal rumbling drone wall sounds and sombre but slowly uplifting piano refrains.

'Death Obsession' is a mindmelting, overwhelming, cathartic and hypnotic body of work that needs your attention and deep listening ears attuned to the maximum capacity, and is completed with some very striking artwork realised by D//O over the last few years.

"This album has been my therapy, for dealing with so much:
the deaths and suicides of family, loved ones, friends
coping with losing almost everything in a house fire
the atrocities that I see, hear and read about every day
learning how to rebuild my mind and life after all those things.

Creating art, making noises, channeling all this into the instrumentation and collecting it all together in this first real and proper body of work as Dauðaþráhyggja has thoroughly changed my life and perspective of everything, so if you are reading this, I am nervous, but I am grateful. 'Death Obsession' now belongs to everyone."

Even upon hearing that first reverb drenched bass drum thud, it felt like the Dauðaþráhyggja project was going to be something interesting. As it took shape further, and a few more sound clips and art pieces were shared, it was evident this would become a fairly massive sounding album. I was not fully prepared for what was then presented to me as an hour-long finished release.

I made a video for the first single 'Fyrsta líkaminn', which uses all the footage D//O sent me of a 4+ hour journey from Reykjavík to Akureyri and other surrounding towns. I am very proud of this video and its hallucinogenic capabilities, and I hope it adds an enjoyable dimension to the monumental sounds of Dauðaþráhyggja.
