ON051 - Vines In Time Will Coat The Gray

by Ixian

1.
This I Pray 04:16
Let it take me this I pray Kneeling yet before the tide Rise, my dear, and touch the skin Breaking on these jagged rocks Glistening in the devil's sun My body wants your full embrace Kiss my lips and fill my lungs As you smother in and out
2.
536 AD 08:32
The tale is written in the trees Comparisons of ancient rings Stories told of fading heat Under a blanketed sky "For the sun gave forth its light without brightness, like the moon During the whole year" Or so Procopius wrote The dimmed heavens loom over plots Which do not birth the annual yield The failure of the crops to grow Triggering the famine times Prayers to see her dissipate Upon the lips in many tongues To feel again the sun's embrace Go unanswered in 536 AD
3.
All architecture now mausolea Testaments to distant deeds Nothing of note is walled within As even the ghosts have wandered on Overgrowth to reclaim the concrete lands Vines in time will coat the gray Stretching out to hold the bricks and rebar tight Always slipping in our war Against the hubris in our past Creeping closer to the hour Time's run out. It always would.
4.
Caustic fingertips with a burning touch Type out the hostage note Folllow along to The clacking arhythm of the keys List of demands to loved ones who Wait with bated breath Stretching fingers with a long sigh Time to hit send Patiently waiting by the phone A scheme for extortion Let's hope they don't uncover Taken and the taker are the same
5.
Scraping from the data mines Pulling pulp from the skin The bytes are portioned out For spoon to mouth Force fed by engineers, employed as thieves No thought for oversight The monied do as they please Technocrats as oligarchs A capital disease Armies of engineers employed as thieves They know your smiling face Plastered on their screen From rows in server farms Pictures housed within The great surveillance state is watching you Algorithms predicting who will do the crime Biased coders judging you with every line The great surveillance state wants you on your knees
6.
To the happy times and the often cruel The means to an end for the right to rule Not content to survive but to dominate The demagogue thrives on hate The rotting corpse of the vagrant left in the ditch The gilded homes of the landed rich The cries of those who simply wish to be Are crushed again by this tyranny So like a flag in the wind, we move and twist A tattered symbol, a broken fist A crumbling wall, a contentious divorce The splintering ships of an abandoned port
7.
Hollow dank caves reek with the slime and stagnant water on the walls Eroding patterns that follow within the cracks to part the stone. Attrition, submission, to the whims of the ebbs and to the flows. Time moves onward to an end that none of us will ever see. On the scales traversed there is little point pontificating the horizon's distance
8.
Branches fall over head Tumbling to the leaves Drying bark that peels off Curling in the heat Shuffling through browned earth Leaving trails of red Wafting notes of still wet blood It follows Trudging down a makeshift path One step ahead Darkness blanketing the runner's form Is that a noise in the distance, or just another trick of the mind? How long before the sands Say out of time?

about

'Time moves onward to an end that none of us will ever see.'
ON051 & IX027 - "Caustic black metal and dense noise textures"

This gives me enormous pleasure to release an Ixian album. Daniel Shroyer is a musician, artist and DIY creator of physical releases I've admired for quite a few years. The project dances around so many styles; ambient to noise, black metal to industrial, dark electronics to doom sludge, cyber/grind/techno to post rock. All with monolithic riffs, epic ideas, encased in overwhelming and stunning productions.

We had chatted for a while about some kind of collaboration of our projects, and now I am incredibly pleased to include this monster on these pages. Within seconds of hearing 'This I Pray', I knew this was the one that had to be on Owlripper! I am thankful to Daniel for letting me post this here.

If your ears can't get enough of Dragged Into Sunlight, The Axis Of Perdition, Thantifaxath, Portal, Blut Aus Nord, Oranssi Pazuzu, Godflesh, Jute Gyte and that terrifying and beautiful Icelandic black metal atmosphere; then you will soon be immersed and addicted to this punishing yet cathartic album.
