About the song: Giant molecular clouds (GMCs) are vast gas clouds in interstellar space from which stars can form. These clouds have temperatures close to absolute zero and are relatively much denser than typical interstellar space.

Whilst the exact mechanism of star formation is unclear, the general concept is that certain conditions cause such clouds to collapse under their own gravity and fragment into many 'cores'.

A star may then form from one of these cores (a 'protostar'), initially shrouded in dust from the collapse whilst a disk begins to form around it.

Eventually, this disk forms a planetary system around the protostar. The star continues to accrete matter and gravitationally contract until the pressures and temperatures in its centre reach a certain threshold, at which point nuclear fusion begins and the star moves onto the stellar 'main-sequence'.

This track is based around the concept of one of these star-forming clouds being used to breed stars as tools of war by a fictional spacefaring empire. In particular, it follows an individual star from the start of gravitational collapse until the ignition of nuclear fusion in its core.
